This presentation examines the musical careers and impact of Singer/Songwriters Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, two influential singer-songwriters whose work helped define the musical landscape of the 1970s and 1980s. Through analysis of their solo projects, collaborations, and contributions to bands they both worked with, this presentation will explore themes of musical craftsmanship, lyrical introspection, and stylistic crossover. Special emphasis will be placed on their roles in the evolution of soft rock, blue-eyed soul, and “yacht rock,” as well as their influence on contemporary artists. Utilizing recordings, interviews, and critical analysis, the course positions their music within the broader cultural and commercial trends of late 20th-century America, highlighting how their work continues to resonate in popular culture and music history.  Presentation will run 1.5 hours--class will be recorded for replay on-demand.
