FAQ
-
If I miss a course you had scheduled last month, or earlier, and I’d still like to view it online, is that possible?Yes. There may be a fee for viewing archived content, but if you request a lecture from the list of courses presented more recently, it will depend on the course and size of the file. There are no promises that the content will be available, but we will try to accommodate you.
-
Do you record your lectures?Yes. A passcode protected link will be sent to all registered members of a class where you can watch a replay of a video of the lecture. The video link is active for 48-72 hours after the course takes place, at which time it will be removed.
-
Are there any hidden costs or fees? No. If there are materials that can be provided to you that will enhance the experience of learning the course topic, they will be made available at no extra cost. However, if you request a replay of a video that no longer in the cloud after two days, there would be a small fee to make that available for you to view.
-
Are there enrollment limits?Yes. Our courses do have a limit to the number of people who can be enrolled in a class via Zoom. Enrollment limits may change without notice, but it is our hope to accommodate as many interested parties to enjoy the content as possible. When a class is closed due to exceeding our enrollment limits, a second class for that content and musical subject will be scheduled whenever possible.
-

Are the lectures and courses held live and in real time?Yes. The lectures are all live and unique to your experience, discussion and Q&A. The same exact lecture and content is never quite the same for the same course presented at a later time. The live experience is one of the special unique qualities of The Rock and Roll Professor series of lectures. Feel free to get involved by asking questions and engaging in discussion. What skill level or knowledge do I need to have to enjoy these short classes? These courses are designed for fun and the enjoyment of learning. You do not need to be working on your masters in music or have a formal musical background to understand and enjoy the content. In most cases, you do not need any prior musical experience what-so-ever. Just sit back and enjoy the stories, the discussion and the music.

Who is The Rock and Roll Professor? The Rock and Roll Professor was created to continue to educate people of the importance of jazz, blues and rock and roll music. As a group of like-minded friends realized at the beginning of the new millennium, the memory and appreciation of important musical artists, performers, recordings and stories associated with 20th Century were being lost. This music and its rich history is a fundamental component to the social structure of the last 100 years in America and beyond. We believe it is important to help revive interest in this content and musical history. These courses (and this organization) are committed to keeping these stories and the music alive, through education and storytelling. The Rock and Roll Professor has a small advisory group who are led by Rob Joyce. Rob Joyce has over 30 years of experience in teaching higher education and has degrees a B.A. Music Education and a Master of Arts in Education. He has also served as the executive director of the Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society and the Dahl Arts Center and Museum, Rapid City Arts Council. Rob was a concert promoter for over 20 years and presented hundreds of jazz, blues, rock and soul artists during that time. He has had some unique experiences and context from being involved in the music business for so long. Those experiences often become part of the stories that are told and shared throughout many of the courses offered.

What do I do if I have technical issues when a class is presented? Do I get a refund? You may qualify for a refund or a discount if The Rock and Roll Professor online course results in a technical condition that prohibits proper audio or video viewing by the attendees because of obvious negligence on the part of The Rock and Roll Professor. In the case of an Act of God, (a power outage, a weather event, an alien invasion, Chinese UFO weather balloon interference) or any unrelated internet or 3rd party circumstance; (e.g. Zoom, Midco, Wix, OBS, etc. and as a result, we are unable to communicate with video or audio to attendees), this would be considered beyond the scope of our control. However, a discount may be awarded to attendees at our discretion. When the issue is investigated and it appears that only you had difficulty, we are likely to assume it is unique to your computer, internet settings & provider, and not our responsibility to award a refund. We do want you to be happy and enjoy our classes. So the first step is communicating with us to determine steps to fix the problems you may have had with enjoying the course. Please note: Always check your Zoom application for updates prior to attending any course. This will prevent most issues you may have with properly hearing and seeing the content presented.
